Who’s Your Bet: Here are the Men and Women Running for PH President and Vice President (So Far)

Seventy-two people filed to become the next President, while 22 did the same to become our Vice President.

Aspirants of our country’s Presidential and Vice-Presidential posts went to the Garden Tent of Sofitel Manila to file their certificates of candidacy (COC). From October 1 to 8, seventy-two Filipinos filed for the post of our next president. At the same time, 22 people filed for the next vice president to be elected in the 2022 elections.

However, before the official list of candidates will be released by the COMELEC in November 2021, here are the people who filed for COC for the two highest posts in our nation this week.

Presidential candidates

Ernesto Abella 

Abella filed for his COC for presidency today and will be running independently. Abella is the former spokesperson of current President Duterte.

Loreto Agcaoili

Agcaoili filed for his COC for presidency today and will be running independently.

Juan Aguilar Jr.

Aguilar filed for his COC for presidency today and will be running independently.

Hilario Andes

Andes filed for his COC for presidency today and will be running independently.

Gerald Arcega 

Arcega filed for his COC for presidency today and will be running independently.

Bonifacio Bravo

Bravo filed for his COC for presidency today and will be running independently.

Percival Kevin de Guzman

De Guzman filed for a COC for presidency today and will be running independently.

Sen. Ronaldo “Bato” Dela Rosa

The Senator’s party, the Cusi faction of the ruling group PDP-Laban, sent a photo to media today showing him filing his COC for President, with fellow Senator Bong Go as his running mate. In the photo, he was seen wearing a Hugpong ng Pagbabago party shirt, which is the regional party of Sara Duterte-Carpio.

Anthony Fajardo 

Fajardo filed for his COC for presidency today and will be running under the political party HOPE.

Kamadhenu Gaa

Fajardo filed for his COC for presidency today and will be running independently.

Alejo Katigbak 

Katigbak filed for his COC for presidency today and will be running independently.

Robert Navarro

Katigbak, an Illocos native, filed for his COC for presidency today and will be running independently.

Ferdinand Jose Pijao 

Pijao filed for his COC for presidency today and will be running independently.

Danilo Roble

Roble filed for his COC for presidency today and will be running independently. In his speech, he shares that he is against violence and places importance on love.

Cornelio Seno

Seno filed for his COC for presidency today and will be running independently.

Ma. Antonia Aquino 

Last Thursday, Aquino (no relation to the political Aquino clan) filed for candidacy. In her speech at the Garden Tent in Sofitel after making her political bid official, she says a conversation with God solidified her decision. “Two nights ago, ako po ay kinausap ni Yahweh Elohim, sinabi po niya sa akin: pursue, overtake them, and recover all,” Aquino said. (Two nights ago, Yahweh Elohim talked to me, then told me: pursue, overtake them, and recover all.) “I stand here not by any other party. My handler is the living God and the Holy Spirit,” she continued

Salic Arap

Arap filed for his COC for presidency yesterday and will be running independently.

Rodulfo Basadre Jr.

Basadre filed for his COC for presidency yesterday and will be running independently.

Rolly Casino

Casino filed for his COC for presidency yesterday and will be running independently.

Rodel de Vera 

Rodel “Romel” De Vera filed for his COC for presidency yesterday and will be running independently.

Ephraim Defino 

Defino, also filed to run for senate in 2015, filed for a COC to run for president in the 2022 elections. The Sultan Kudarat native will be running independently.

Alexander Encarnacion

The electrician and independent presidential candidate was the first to file for a COC yesterday.

Corina Joyce Felix

Felix filed for her COC for presidency yesterday and will be running independently.

Nancy Megio

Megio filed for her COC for presidency yesterday and will be running independently.

Domingo Mejia

In his speech after filing for a COC yesterday, the presidential aspirant said that God told him to be the next head of the Philippines. Mejia added that if he ran for vice president, he would merely be a “display.” And so he thinks running for president is “perfect.”

Jose Romel Murio 

Murio filed for his COC for presidency yesterday and will be running independently.

Juan Juan Ollesca 

Ollesca filed for his COC for presidency yesterday and will be running independently.

Mara Leonor “Leni” Robredo

The country’s current vice president and former representative of Camarines Sur filed for COC yesterday. Robredo, an independent candidate, has the highest audit ratings for budget transparency spent on programs and services. 

In Robredo’s speech declaring her presidential bid, she said in Filipino, “today, I stand with full resolve: We must free ourselves from the current situation. I will fight. We will fight.” 

Toward the end of the speech, she said that she would fight for the Filipino people by putting everything on the line and calling on the country to join her in advancing into a more just and humane future, where every Filipino has a chance to succeed. 

Jeffrey Roden 

Roden, a writer, filed for president yesterday and will be running independently.

Roosevelt Sta. Maria

Sta. Maria filed for a COC for presidency yesterday and will be running independently.

Antonio Valdes

The certified public accountant filed for candidacy for the presidential post of political party Katipunan ng Demokratikong Pilipino (KDP). In an official statement, Valdes says that KDP is a “party of principle, not convenience; a party of ideas and not personalities. 

Ramon Asuelo 

Asuelo filed for a COC for presidency last October 6 and will be running independently. The farmer also filed for presidential candidacy in 2015.

Leogario  “Leody” de Guzman 

The PMI Colleges graduate is the presidential candidate for political party Partido Lakas ng Masa. He currently sits as the chairperson of Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino (solidarity of Filipino Workers. In the 2019 senatorial elections De Guzman placed 38th.  

Rudy Flores 

Flores filed for a COC for presidency last October 6 and will be running independently.

Edencio Fronda

Fronda filed for a COC for presidency last October 6 and will be running independently.

Norberto Gonzales 

Gonzales filed for a COC to tun for president under the political party Partido Demokratiko Sosyalista ng Pilipinas. In his speech after filing, the former Department of National Defence Secretary describes our current administration as “rotten.”

Panfilo “Ping” Lacson 

The presidential aspirant for political party Patrido Reporma is currently a senator in the 19th congress. Lacson filed for candidacy last Wednesday and said in his speech, ​​“competence, honesty, courage. These are the qualities of the Lacson-Sotto tandem that aims to bring back the trust of our people to our government.” 

The 73-year-old will be running alongside senator Tito Sotto as the party’s vice president.

Happy Lurbarbio 

Lurbarbio filed for a COC for presidency last October 6 and will be running independently.

Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. 

The son of dictator Ferdinand Marcos filed for candidacy last Wednesday, aspiring to hold his late father’s presidential position from 1965 to 1986. Marcos is running with the political party Partido Federal ng Pilipinas. 

His public service experience includes being a senator from 2010 to2016 and serving as governor of Ilocos Norte prior. 

In a brief speech upon obtaining his COC, Marcos said, “join me in this noblest of causes, and we will succeed.”

Dante Martirez 

Martirez filed his COC for presidency last October 6 under the political party Federal Eastern Maharlika.

Dolores Quirao 

Quirao, a farmer, filed for a COC for presidency last October 6 and will be running independently.

Luzviminda Raval

Raval filed for a COC for presidency last October 6 and will be running independently.

Benjamin Rivera

Rivera filed for a COC for presidency last October 6 and will be running independently.

Sahiron Salim 

Salim filed for a COC for presidency last October 6 and will be running independently. In his speech after filing for candidacy he says in Filipino, “trust me with this position. Otherwise, we will drown.”

Jimmy Torres

Last Wednesday, Torres filed for a presidential candidacy under the political party Kilusang Bagong Lipunan.  KBL was founded in 1978 by former Nacionalista Party leader Ferdinand Marcos.

Danilo Villanueva

Villanueva filed for a COC for presidency last October 6 and will be running independently. The caloocan native dubbed himself as the “crush ng bayan.”

Arnel David 

David filed for a COC for presidency last October 5 and will be running independently.

Leonardo Fernandez 

Fernandez filed for a COC for presidency last October 5 and will be running independently.

Marsden Luyahan 

Luyahan filed for a COC for presidency last October 5 and will be running independently.

Maria Aurora Marcos 

Marcos (no relation to the political Marcos clan) filed for a COC for presidency last October 5 and will be running independently.

Edgar Niez

Niez filed for a COC for presidency last October 5 and will be running independently. In his speech, he says that “with God, nothing is impossible.” Niez adds that God “instructed” him to run as the head of our nation.

Valeriano Nocon III

Nocon, a vlogger, filed for a COC for presidency last October 5 and will be running independently.

Sonny Boy Andrade 

Andrade for a COC for presidency last October 4 and will be running independently. According to CNN Philippines, he “bats for the observance of the 1987 constitution.”

Delia Aninon

Aninon, a former overseas Filipino worker, filed a COC for presidency last October 4 and will be running independently. In her speech, Aninon says that she wants to make the Philippines more attractive to investors to create more jobs.

Leo Cadion

Candion filed for a COC for presidency last October 4 and will run under the Philippine Green Republican Party. One of Candion’s goals, if granted the post, is to end political dynasties.

Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso 

The current Manila City mayor is running under the political party Aksyon Demokratiko. As mayor, which started in 2019, he launched a COVID food security program that provides meals to selected families. 

In his speech after filing for the presidential post last Monday, he encouraged citizens to vote for him and his vice-presidential aspirant running mate Willie Ong. He said in Filipino, “I encourage each and every one of you, do not separate Willie and me. You are tired of fighting. When you vote for the president and then vote for a different vice president, there would be five or six years of feud.”

Winston Kayanan

Kayanan filed for a COC for presidency last October 4 and will be running independently.

Gabriela Larot

Larot filed for a COC for presidency last October 4 and will be running independently. Larot was the second woman to file for the nation’s head spot last Monday.

Fraisal Mangondato

Mangondato filed for a COC for presidency last October 4 and will be running under the political party Katipunan ng Kamalayang Kayumanggi. He believes that Mindanao’s martial laws should be lifted.

Maria Mercedes Pesigan

Pesigan filed for a COC for presidency last October 4 and will be running independently.

Melchor Puno

Puno filed for a COC for presidency last October 4 and will be running independently.

Alfredo Respuesto

Respuesto filed for a COC for presidency last October 4 and will be running independently. He says that his goal is to push for higher salaries for workers.

Janita Trocenio

Trocenio, an engineer, filed for a COC for presidency last October 4 and will be running independently. She ends her speech by singing the worship song “Here I Am Lord.” 

Renato Jose Valera

Valera filed for a COC for presidency last October 4 and will be running independently.

Tiburcio Marcos

Marcos (also no relation to the political clan) filed for a COC for presidency last October 3 and will be running independently.

Victoriano Inte

Inte filed for a COC for presidency last October 2 and will be running independently. The Pasay barangay staff member says he will claim our rights to the West-Philippine Sea and punish the Marcoses for their rigging elections and ill-gotten wealth.

Dave Aguila 

Aguila, a fitness coach, filed for a COC for presidency last October 1 and will be running independently.

Jose Monetemayor

Montemayor, a cardiologist, filed for a COC for presidency last October 1 and will be running under the political party Democratic Party of the Philippines.

Leysander “Ley” Ordens

Ordens filed for a COC for presidency last October 1 and will be running independently.

Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao

The recently retired pro boxer filed for his presidential candidacy last October 1 and will be running under the political party PROMDI. Pacquiao, a General Santos native, currently holds a position as a senator.

Emundo Rubi 

Rubi filed for a COC for presidency last October 1 and will be running independently. If granted the post, he says he wants to provide Filipinos with P5,000 a month from the government.

Laurencio “Jun” Yulga

Yulga filed for a COC for presidency last October 1 and will be running under the political party Philippine Green Republican Party.

Vice Presidential Candidates

Wilson Amad 

Amad filed a COC for vice presidency yesterday and will be running independently.

Aeric Bernardino

Bernardino filed a COC for vice presidency yesterday and will be running independently.

Nathaniel Jayoma

Jayoma filed a COC for vice presidency yesterday and will be running independently.

Ferdinand Laguindino

Laguindo filed a COC for vice presidency yesterday and will be running independently.

Bienvenido Lorque

Lorque filed a COC for vice presidency yesterday and will be running under the political party Katipunan ng Demokratikong Pilipino.

Lourdes Tolentino

Tolentino filed a COC for vice presidency yesterday and will be running independently.

Leonardo Verceles Jr.

Verceles filed a COC for vice presidency yesterday and will be running independently.

Vicente “Tito” Soto III  

Sotto filed a COC for the vice presidency last October 6 and will be running under the political party Nationalist People’s Coalition. Sotto filed for the position a week after receiving the top spot on Pulse Asia’s survey of potential vice presidents for the 2022 elections. The results prompted him to vow to “work harder.”

Melodino Villanueva

Villanueva filed a COC for vice presidency last October 5 and will be running independently.

Princess Sunshine Amirah Magdangal 

Magdangal filed a COC for vice presidency last October 4 and will run under the Philippine Green Republican Party. Magdangal will be running alongside the party’s presidential candidate, Leo Cadion.

Willie Ong 

Under political party Aksyon Demokratiko, the cardiologist will be running alongside presidential candidate Isko Moreno. Ong also runs social media pages with almost 24 million collective followers on Instagram, Youtube, and Facebook. The De La Salle Health Science Institute is known as the “doktor ng bayan” as he shares health and motivational posts on his media platforms.

Carlos Serapio 

Serapio filed a COC for vice presidency last October 4 and will run under the political party Katipunan ng Kamalayang Kayumanggi. Serapio will be running alongside KKK’s presidential candidate Faisal Mangondato.

Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go

Accompanied by President Duterte, Go filed his COC for vice president under political party PDP-Laban (Cusi Wing) last Saturday. The senator said in a statement, “given that President Rodrigo Duterte decided to withdraw his acceptance of [the nomination], I am here to take on the challenge as PDP-Laban’s Vice Presidential candidate.”

Jose “Lito” Atienza Jr. 

The former mayor of Manila filed a COC for vice presidency last October 1 and will run under the political party PDP-Laban (Pacquiao wing)-Promdi-PCM Alliance. Atienza has stated he has “full trust” in his running mate, senator Manny Pacquiao, and would only prefer the public to vote for him if they were voting for Pacquiao as well.

Rochelle David

David filed a COC for vice presidency last October 1 and will run independently.

Alexander Lague 

Lague filed a COC for vice presidency last October 1 and will run under the political party Philippine Green Republican Party. Her goal if granted the post is to “stop poverty and eradicate corruption.”

Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan

Last October 7, Pangilinan confirmed that he would be running for the second-highest seat in the country. Today, he officially filed his COC. The 58-year-old is presidential candidate Leni Robredo’s running mate and is under the political party LP (Liberal Party).

Currently, he serves as one of the country’s senators. Pangilinan graduated with degrees from the University of the Philippines Diliman and Harvard University.

Rey Anthony Bereber 

Bereber filed a COC for vice presidency today and will run independently.

Arlene Josephine Butay

Butay filed a COC for vice presidency today and will run independently.

Rizalito David 

David filed a COC for vice presidency today and will run independently.

Abdullatief Pumbaya

Pumbaya filed a COC for vice presidency today and will run independently.

Elpidio Rosales Jr.

Rosales filed a COC for vice presidency today and will run with the political party Maharlika People’s Party.
