This shows in detail her journey from her Disney Channel debut to subsequent pop stardom.

There’s a lot to unpack from the 95-minute long documentary, which shows Gomez at her most vulnerable. Here are just some of the lessons she imparts to viewers.

Not perfect?

The film depicts Gomez breaking down crying while on tour in light of her highly publicized breakup with Justin Bieber.

“When am I going to be good enough just by myself… not needing anyone else to be associated with?” she said onscreen.

Notwithstanding, she ultimately found closure through self-love, going as far to call the break up the “best thing that ever happened” to her.

Not worth it?

In one scene, Gomez’s former assistant recalled the time when the singer said she didn’t want to be alive.

She had gone through a nervous breakdown, which she was only able to discuss with her mother after the documentary.

Nonetheless, Gomez does not shy away from the camera. She neither romanticizes nor stigmatizes mental illness, only showing how it can affect anyone regardless of status.

Only one that’s hurting?

The Wizards of Waverly Place alum likewise showed there was nothing magical about lupus.

Backstage at rehearsals, she has to monitor her blood pressure to prevent potential strokes.

She persists through the (very much visible) pain. All while educating viewers about the difficulty of treatment that patients like herself have to deal with constantly.

Not pretty, not beautiful?

Through it all, My Mind And Me also shows Gomez at her best.

She somehow finds the time to pursue philanthropy and advocacy.

“I think you know what fuels you and gives you purpose and the things that make you happy, but I don’t always think you choose that,” Gomez ends on a positive note.
