Vibe Check: Red Velvet’s Joy Dances For Tod's As The Sun Sets In Seoul - Lookbook

The Korean singer, who is set to launch her first solo album this month, is the star of the Italian luxury brand’s new video.

For the second chapter of Tod’s video series “In Our Shoes,” Red Velvet star Joy is seen sitting on building ledges, going down stairways, and vibin’ as the sun sets in Seoul. In the video, which highlights the Italian luxury house’s Tabs Sneakers, the K-pop singer is joined by professional dancers YoungDeuk Kwon and Kyunik Lee.

Dancing with myself

The Jehu Island-born musical artist, whose real name is Park Soo-young, is having a busy year as she is set to release her solo album by the end of the month. The album, titled Hello, will be consist of six tracks, which are remakes of hits from the 90s to the aughts.

Joy, who like other Korean performers also has numerous acting credits, has also lent her voice to soundtracks for popular K-dramas, including Hospital Playlist, The Ghost Detective, Tempted, and The Liar and His Lover.

The 25-year-old is also known for her confident, colorful fashion sense, gravitating toward brands like Celine, Dior, and Calvin Klein. Late last year, she had a frontrow experience at her first New York Fashion Week as a VIP guest for Michael Kors Fall presentation.

City moving

Part one of “In Our Shoes” was shot in New York and launched last November, and had Levi Dylan, Taylor Rosen, and Gabriella Bechtel as its main protagonists.

In Joy’s chapter, the Seoul skyline becomes the backdrop for the performer’s sharp and energetic movements. Directed by InKon Koh, the short film opens with a solo dance by the Red Velvet member, establishing the visual language for the less-than-a-minute running time.

The South Korean location was a former oil reserve, a reminder of intense used industrialization in the country in the 1970s. Located in Seoul’s Mapo-gu district, day, it is now called the Oil Tank Culture Park.

On their feet are Tabs, the Italian label’s classic, sporty lace-ups designed by creative director Walter Chiapponi. The shoes, whose brown suede version was named by The Gentleman’s Journal as one of the best men’s sneakers for Spring this year, can be identified by the brand’s proprietary Gommino pebbles on its heel counter.
