The anonymous owner told BBC it was only ever publicly displayed at the local school where his wife worked.
A long-lost work of Banksy is going on display in Salford, England, after its owner offered it to exhibit organizers. The art piece, titled “Leopard and Barcode,” spent a decade under the anonymous owner’s spare bed. Now, the work, created initially near Bristol in 1999 or 2000, will be shown at The Art of Banksy, an exhibition beginning on October 21 at Salford’s MediaCityUK.
He told BBC it was only ever publicly displayed at the local school where his wife worked. “In keeping with the ethos of having street art free to view by the public, Leopard and Barcode will be displayed in the foyer of The Art of Banksy, allowing the public to come and enjoy it free of charge,” he said.
The piece shows a leopard walking away from a “cage” with bent bars, which depicts a barcode. According to the publication, The Art of Banksy’s curators considers it a privilege to display the artwork.
Other banky pieces at the England show will include Brace Yourself (2010), Girl With Balloon (2002), Flower Thrower (2003), and Rude Copper (2002).
