The First Shadow: Netflix Announces ‘Stranger Things’ Stage Play - Arts & Culture

The stage play will give viewers a peek into the past of the Stranger Things universe.

The Netflix hit series has been taking the world by storm since it was released in 2016.

Its most recent season has garnered 1.35 billion hours viewed and had the biggest premiere weekend on the streaming platform.

The upcoming stage play, titled Stranger Things: The First Shadow, will further explore the franchise’s beginnings. The setting will remain in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana but it will take place in 1959, more than two decades before the original story.

The play’s description reads: “Hawkins, 1959: a regular town with regular worries. Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob’s sister won’t take his radio show seriously and Joyce just wants to get out as soon as she can.

“When new student Henry Creel and his family arrive, they find a fresh start isn’t that easy… and the shadows of the past have a very long reach.”

The show’s creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, will be creative producers for the play. The brothers said that the play will be “at turns surprising, scary, and heartfelt.”

“You will meet endearing new characters, as well as very familiar ones, on a journey into the past that sets the groundwork for the future of Stranger Things,” they added.

The play is set to premiere late this year at the Phoenix Theatre in London. Tickets for the show will be going on sale in the spring.

Stranger Things fans still have a lot to look forward to. Though the main series will be ending with the highly anticipated fifth season, a live-action spin off is also in the works.
