Everyone has been in a contemplative mood since last year, and perfumers are no exception. And the question they’ve been posing when it comes to men’s fragrances of late is of how masculinity is defined in a socially-aware, and ever expressive world. Some of the answers, in the forms of these EDPs and EDTs, point to a variety of meanings.

Montblanc Explorer Ultra Blue

The newest edition to a line that was introduced two years ago, this fragrance pays tribute to the German luxury goods brand’s heritage as a companion to adventure-seeking travellers. Three exceptional noses—avid travellers Jordi Fernandez , Olivier Pescheux, and Antoine Maisondieu—collaborated to produce the scent, which takes the wearer and those near him from Italy, Alpine landscapes, and Indonesia.

This fragrance also celebrates the Maison’s connection to nature through its distinctive citrus, woody and marine notes. A citrusy Italian bergamot starts things off as the top note which is then married to pink peppercorn to deliver a fresh spiciness with woody facets. Marine accord is then found at the heart of the Explorer, while a singular patchouli from Sulawesi finishes things off at the base.

Paco Rabanne Invictus Victory

Launched this year, Invictus Victory is the only eau de parfum in the line first introduced by the Spanish label in 2013. “I love the mix of freshness and intensity,” Nick Youngquest, the Australian former rugby star who is the new face of the fragrance, told Augustman.com. “It reveals sensuality but also has a strong energy. It smells really good.”

Falling under the warm and spicy fragrance family, the EDP has notes of Lemon, Citrus Pepper Accord, Lavender, Olibanum, Amber, and Vanilla. Woody incense then strengthens the composition while a more sensual vanilla mingles with a fiery Tonka bean. We’re not much for puns, but that’s a pretty winning combination.

Salvatore Ferragamo Intense Leather

Following the introduction of its eau de toilette last year, Ferragamo adds this eau de parfum to its lineup. The luxury Italian label describes Intense Leather as a “more intense, decisive and sensual interpretation of modern masculinity,” and is for men who are unafraid to connect to the world and show their inner nature.

Created with Antoine Maisondieu of Givaudan, the fragrance is said to be a “Leathery Aromatic Salty Creation with a deep contemporary twist.” Among the interplay notes is Mandarin, Pink Peppercorn, Clary Sage Absolute, Annurca Apple Accord, Lily of the Valley and Orris. Musk and Oakmoss are also in the mix along with Ferragamo’s proprietary Intense Leather Exclusive accord.

Carolina Herrera 212 Heroes

Built around a unique vegan formula, 212 Heroes is an exciting addition to one of the most enduring lines by the Venezuelan-American designer. It is obviously targeted for a younger (or for those who want, as the brand describes, “to feel young whenever we want”) audience as it is housed in a skateboard-shaped bottle and has Riverdale’s KJ Apa as one of its ambassadors.

The label created a new type of Fougère, which is one of the main olfactive families of perfumes. This new fragrance features the Fougère Fruity Woody, which combines Geranium Oil with Pear Elixir. It makes use of organic ingredients certified by Expertise Vegan Europe, and includes notes of Ginger, Sage, Geranium, Leather, and Musk.
