Scene Stealer: Through Edoardo Leo, the Venice International Film Festival highlights Lexus’ Support for the ‘Seventh Art’ - The Scene

At the world’s oldest film festival, the carmaker also introduced the NX luxury mid-size SUV.

Stars stepped out onto the red carpet for the opening of the 78th Venice International Film Festival at Sala Grande. The arrivals—Timothée Chalamet, Kristen Stewart, Dakota Johnson, and Zendaya among them—was a point of discussion, of course, but, what they arrived in also caught attention.

At the site where Oscar winner Roberto Benigni received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement, a cast of luxury SUVs, sedans, coupes, and cabriolets went one after the other, and deposited their VIP passengers.

The carmaker’s passion for the “seventh art” was told through the eyes and experiences of Edoardo Leo, the acclaimed actor, director, screenwriter, and Lexus brand ambassador.

The partnership between the magic of cinema and Lexus is forged by a shared desire to create unique and unforgettable emotional experiences. This is done through elements that are sometimes imperceptible, but which define the distinctive character of the final product: attention to detail, craftsmanship, innovation and vision.

Arts patron

This is embodied in the all-new NX luxury mid-size SUV, which made its debut at the festival. The NX expands Lexus’ vision of electrification through advanced new plug-in technology delivering the highest levels of performance and efficiency, while its striking exterior and interior. Not least, the distinctive new Tazuna cockpit reflects the human-centred philosophy which lies at the heart of Lexus design.

The new NX also offers a next-generation multimedia and connectivity system alongside leading-edge technologies for greater safety, comfort and convenience. Heralding a new chapter in Lexus history, it replaces a highly successful model which amassed sales of over 175,000 in Europe.

Leo highlighted the collaborative work that Lexus has engaged in to help the entertainment sector. Following an acutely difficult period for the arts, the car brand is supporting “Poltrone Rosse,” a crowdfunding initiative with the National Union of Theatre and Audiovisual Interpreters (UNITA).

This seeks to assist performers, especially women during pregnancy. The initiative will see rows of red armchairs placed in the squares of five Italian cities (including Venice during the Biennale Cinema 2021), where actors can sit alongside film fans and tell of their passion for the big screen, with proceeds going to projects conducted with UNITA.

Continuing partnership

Lexus has been the Official Car of the festival for five consecutive years. For 2021, its entire electrified range such as the all-new NX, the UX, RX, ES sedan, LC coupe, LC Convertible, and the UX 300e, Lexus’ first fully electric car accompanied actors, directors and well-known celebrities over the course of the festival.

According to Lexus Italia director Maurizio Perinetti, the brand is proud to showcase its cars at the prestigious setting. They are also happy to highlight their link with cinema through Leo and its concrete support of the festival’s interpreters.

“Venice is also an opportunity to present the all-new NX, a real jewel that represents our vision of electrified mobility and embodies the best in technology, comfort, and design,” the executive says.
