Ryan Cayabyab Named National Artist in the Field of Music

Well-known for his profound contributions in the music industry, Ryan Cayabyab was named as a new National Artist in the Field of Music.
Ryan Cayabyab, a musician, conductor, and composer is the brainchild of classic Filipino songs such as Bituin Walang Ningning, Kay Ganda Ng Ating Musika, and Kumukutikutitap.
The National Artist award is only bestowed to Filipino citizens who gave significant contributions to the development of Philippine arts and letters.
As for Cayabyab who has been in the music industry for a long time and has contributed remarkable OPM songs, the award is much-deserve.
The news was confirmed when one of the musician’s close friend, Lea Salonga, posted a tweet applauding Cayabyab’s achievement.
“Kay ganda ng ating musika… dahil nariyan ka! Congratulations to our dearest Ryan Cayabyab, our country’s newest National Artist for Music!!! Maraming salamat sa mga awiting iyong nilikha upang mapaawit ang ating bansa!!!” Salonga tweeted on Tuesday.
Other notable artists who were named National Artists are Francisco Mañosa (Architecture), Larry Alcala (Visual Arts), Kidlat Tahimik (Cinema), Resil Mojares (Literature), Ramon Muzones (Literature), and Amelia Lapeña Bonifacio (Theater).
