Since 2009, the Red Charity Gala has raised funds for important causes through fashion. They honor Filipino talent by having the collections of prominent designers take the runway.

In 2019 they supported the Philippine Red Cross and Assumption High School ’81 Foundation with a fashion show featuring the countries’ “10 world-class designers,” including Dennis Lustico, Furne One, Cary Santiago, Ezra Santos, and Jojie Lloren.

Importance of giving

Since the first Gala, Tinga has been one of the organizers when Lustico invited her. I didn’t hesitate,” she tells Lifestyle Asia. “I believed then, and even more so now, of the enormous talent and creativity of Philippine fashion designers and the importance of giving them a platform to highlight this.”

But due to the pandemic, the organization temporarily halted the upscale gatherings usually mounted by event producer Robbie Carmona’s Saga Events, tablescape artist Robert Blancaflor, and interior styling firm Moss Manila.

Instead, a sale of luxury items donated by the Gala’s peers will help raise funds.

Pre-loved items from Chanel, Alexander Wang, Givenchy, Valentino, and Aquazurra, some even brand new, will be on sale. The donors include Vicky Belo, Hayden Kho, Small Laude, Rajo Laurel, and Issa Cellona.

Indescribable joy

“The joy we experience knowing that we can help is indescribable—from the victims of Typhoon Ondoy to helping in the reconstruction of Cebu after the earthquake in 2013 and supporting the Philippine Red Cross,” Tinga recalls.

The idea for the benefit came about through Tinga and Valdes’ daughters.

“Tessa’s eldest daughter, Jordan, has been living in Siargao and experienced firsthand the devastation wrought by Typhoon Odette. When my daughter, Kerry learned of this, she asked me how we could help,” Tinga shares.

“Tessa and I put our heads and hearts together, [and we] came up with this plan, with more than a little help from our friends.”

Jordan has met and visited many Siargao residents who need assistance and personally reached out to them to help.

The Red Charity Gala with a “Pre-Loved Luxury Sale” will be open from 11 A.M. to 6 A.M. at the Swatch Building on Arnaiz Avenue. Items will also be available online through their Instagram account @redcharitygala.
