Remembering Marilyn: How The World Said Goodbye To Hollywood's Most Glamorous Superstar 60 Years Ago - Trending

Six decades after her sudden and tragic passing, adoring fans continue to celebrate her life.

One of Hollywood’s most controversial deaths still leaves the public asking how superstar Marilyn Monroe died in her Los Angeles home on the morning of August 5, 1962.

While so many conspiracy theories abound, fan site Immortal Marilyn President Leslie Kasperowicz writes in her website:

“It has taken me a long time to say those words and accept their truth.  They were never easy to accept, even when they were first published in the very first news reports of her death.  Because they were so hard to accept, it was so much easier to believe the conspiracy theories when they surfaced.  So much easier to look for another explanation and try very hard to find evidence that would back it up.”

To honor her life, Marilyn Remembered fan club hosts and sponsors the annual Marilyn Monroe Memorial Service which happens at Westwood Memorial Park on August 5. 2022 marks the star’s 60th memorial anniversary and the fan club hosted a week of activities from August 3 to 6.

In an Instagram post, Marilyn Remembered fan club shares, “Such beautiful flowers sent from around the world in remembrance of Marilyn. We remember you, Marilyn. We remember you.”

Marilyn Remembered president Greg Schreiner shared, “I’ve always felt Marilyn was way ahead of her time. She formed her own production company, which was unheard of back then. [She] gave the (middle) finger to the studio and said, ‘I’m not going to put up with what you’re giving me. I’m going to make my own pictures.’ She just had this amazing spirit. She believed in what she believed, and she didn’t care what other people thought.” The Instagram page and website state that Marilyn Remembered was “founded in 1982 and is the longest running Marilyn Monroe fan club in existence.” In addition, both online platforms also say that they are “Preserving the memory of Marilyn Monroe with dignity & grace.”

The Marilyn Monroe Collection’s Scott Fortner says, “I think what is really interesting about Marilyn is she became famous before this era of social media, where people have the opportunity really to promote themselves and have a post or a video that would go viral,” he continued. “You’re just kind of drawn for whatever reason to the mystery, the mystique, the legend, just the character that she created because of course, Marilyn Monroe wasn’t a real person. That was someone that she created.  Fortner adds, “She was Norma Jean always and then turned into Marilyn, for public appearances and films.”

Fortner’s Instagram page shares how the world honored and celebrated Monroe’s life today, August 8, exactly 60 years ago during her memorial service. The Instagram page also states that The Marilyn Monroe Collection owns the world’s largest private collection of Monroe’s personal property and archives.
