The Frank Lloyd Wright-designed mid-century home is the only house by the architect on the West Bank of the Hudson.
Sotheby’s International Realty describes the property as: “Circa 1960, Socrates Zaferiou House, a rare Frank Lloyd Wright-designed mid-century home on 2.5 private acres, and located in Clausland Mountain Park, a 532 acre, heavily wooded park, with wonderful, varied, wildlife. It is also the only house Wright designed on the West Bank of the Hudson.”
It adds, “This architecturally striking, 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath residence is considered a modified Usonian-style, single-story home, featuring an extra bedroom and walk-out basement with tall ceilings, not found in FLW’s original style. Zaferiou appealed to Wright for two years to approve his site and expanded home style, and finally, this variation of the Usonian style design was eventually approved by Wright.”

An article in Architectural Digest states, “Frank Lloyd Wright designed hundreds of private homes in his career, but you can only find one in New York City—the Crimson Beech home on Staten Island.” The article also shares, “Just 35 minutes from Manhattan, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Socrates Zaferiou House sits on 2.5 private acres within Clausland Mountain Park in Blauvelt, New York.”
Bloomberg Pursuits reports that “an immaculately preserved house designed by the architect Frank Lloyd Wright just 30 minutes away from Manhattan is hitting the market for $1.525 million. The four bedroom, 2 1/2-bathroom house covers about 2,620 square feet and sits on 2.5 acres in Blauvelt, New York, on the west bank of the Hudson River.”
“Dubbed the Socrates Zaferiou House after its original owner, the property remained in Zaferiou’s hands for more than 50 years and then was purchased by the architectural designer Sarah Anderson-Magness in 2014,” the report continues.
