Philux and Liter of Light Built a Sustainable Mobile Home Inside a Vintage Van - Luxe Living

When Illac Diaz, executive director of the Liter of Light Global Foundation, reached out to Philux with the idea of promoting energy sustainability, it was nothing short of exciting. Sisters and Philux business partners Stephanie Kienle Gonzalez, COO, and Jessica Kienle Maxwell, head designer, immediately got to work on designing the interiors of what would soon become the Green Mobile Home.

Using sustainably-grown Acacia wood and green upholstery to pay homage to earthy, natural elements, the restored vintage VW Kombi van is now ready to begin its adventure. In line with its mission to promote clean energy, the van utilizes 600 watts of Green Heat solar panels installed on its roof to power it. In addition, the lights are LEDs by L&S, and its power sockets by Mainline Power are fire safe.

Liter of Light made headlines for its ingenious use of old plastic bottles by filling them with water and bleach, then installing them on rooftops, thereby, refracting sunlight during the daytime. The Foundation has lit 850,000 homes and counting in poor communities throughout the Philippines.

Philux is a homegrown furniture manufacturer and retailer. Since its founding in 1980, the company has been creating quality furniture pieces using traditional techniques and modern Filipino craftsmanship. The brand currently has five showrooms within Metro Manila.
