“The succession to the throne is regulated not only through descent but also by Parliamentary statute. The order of succession is the sequence of members of the Royal Family in the order in which they stand in line to the throne,” according to the Royal Household’s website.

Here is the new line of succession within Charles’ immediate family.

The Prince of Wales

William, Prince of Wales, is the immediate heir to the throne. He is the elder son of King Charles III and Diana, Princess of Wales.

Prince William is married to Catherine, The Princess of Wales, with whom he has three children who follow him in the line of succession.

The Prince of Wales’ children

Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis of Wales—in order of birth and succession—are ahead of even Prince Harry in line for the throne.

The Duke of Sussex

Harry, Duke of Sussex, is the younger son of King Charles III and Diana, Princess of Wales. He is fifth in line to the throne following his older brother, William, and the latter’s three children.

Prince Harry is married to Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, with whom he has two children.

The Duke of Sussex’s children

Master Archie and Miss Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor, the children of Harry and Meghan, follow the Duke of Sussex in the line of succession.
