Last September, Maserati entered what it says is “a new era” with the introduction of the MC20. The super sports car, the trident brand’s first, was launched in its “MMXX: Time to be audacious” event in Modena.
The MC20 is the rediscovery of Maserati’s original sporty DNA. More known for its comfort and elegance on the road today, the carmaker now strikes back with ferocity on the track. This new model represents power, speed, and the road to the brand’s aesthetic future
Competitive history
It all began back in 1926 with the legendary Tipo 26, the first race car displaying Maserati’s Trident logo. As the first car of this new phase, the MC20 expresses performance and matches it in elegance. It’s a design, its maker says, that transcends the confines of mere appearance, moving beyond sartorial costumes and coverings to see only raw beauty.
Also available in convertible and electric versions, the MC20’s sharp edges generate friction while the sublime sinuosity of the monocoque carbon-fibre frame allows the air to flow freely across it. Elements such as the side vents have become less conspicuous, including the brand’s trident logo.
The “perfect” number three, as with other Maserati models, is seen on the MC20. The number adorns the rear window and wheels alongside a central element and two lateral ones. Its butterfly doors unfurl upward dramatically while the lower part of the car, in exposed carbon fibre or black paint, shows off its engineering.
Full range
Maserati is available in more than 70 markets around the world, where they showcase their successful models. Ambassadors of this heritage include the Quattroporte flagship, the Ghibli sports sedan, now also available in hybrid version, the Trident Brand’s first electrified car, and the Levante, the first made by Maserati SUV.
It is a complete range, including V6 and V8 petrol, 4 cylinder hybrid and V6 diesel powerplants, with rear-wheel and four-wheel drive. Its prestige was recently even further enhanced by the introduction of the new Trofeo Collection, comprising Ghibli, Quattroporte, and Levante, equipped with the powerful 580 hp V8 engine.
Today, the Maserati range is produced at three plants: Ghibli and Quattroporte are built at Grugliasco (Turin) at the Avvocato Giovanni Agnelli Plant (AGAP), and Levante at the Mirafiori Plant in Turin. The new MC20 supercar is produced in Modena, at the historic Viale Ciro Menotti plant.
