On His Side: Kate Moss Takes the Stand to Defend Johnny Depp in the Ongoing Defamation Trial - The Scene

After 24 years since breaking up, Moss still has each Depp back.

In support of her ex-boyfriend Johnny Depp, supermodel Kate Moss took the stand during his trial against Amber Heard.

During the brief questioning by Depp’s lawyers, Moss confirmed that Heard’s allegation about the actor pushing her down the stairs was false.

“We were leaving the room, and Johnny left the room before I did. There had been a rainstorm. As I left the room, I slid down the stairs, and I hurt my back,” the 48-year-old, who appeared via video from her native England, revealed.

“I screamed because I didn’t know what happened to me, and I was in pain. He came running back to help me and carried me to my room and got me medical attention.”

“He never pushed me, kicked me, or threw me down any stairs,” Moss said under oath.

Depp and Moss dated from 1994 to 1998—more than a decade before the Pirates of the Caribbean actor became entangled in the ongoing legal battle with Heard, his ex-wife.

Good run

During their romance, the duo was highly regarded as an “it couple.” In her 2014 book Champagne Supernovas: Kate Moss, Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, and the ’90s Renegades Who Remade Fashion, author Maureen Callahan described the pair as “the epitome of cool in a trainspotting culture.”

When they parted ways, the two were outspoken about the difficulty of going through the break-up. “There’s nobody that’s ever really been able to take care of me. Johnny did for a bit. I believed what he said. Like if I said, ‘What do I do?’ he’d tell me,” Moss told Vanity Fair in 2012.

The model, who’s shot 43 international Vogue covers, also mentioned she spent “years and years of crying.”

While in 1998, Depp told Hello! Magazine That he’s never been emotional about a woman before dating Moss. “I have been so stupid because we had so much going for our relationship. I’m the one who has to take responsibility for what happened—I was difficult to get on with, I let my work get in the way, and I didn’t give her the attention I should have done,” he told the publication.

Depp appeared in eight films during the relationship, including Ed Wood (1994) and Donnie Brasco (1997).

Depp and Heard are at battle in an ongoing defamation trial. In 2018, Heard wrote a Washington Post op-ed identifying herself as a domestic abuse survivor. Although she did not name Depp, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor “claimed in a lawsuit that it hindered his career.”
