Kicking Off Oscars Weekend With This LA Rooftop Fashion Show

The star-studded event was held on the rooftop of the parking garage of West Hollywood’s Pacific Design Center.

It’s been 25 years since Donatella Versace last staged a runway show in California. Originally scheduled on Friday, the event was moved earlier to Thursday, March 9, due to inclement weather.

It took 10 days and 400 crew members to build the glamorous set, while over a hundred Versace employees traveled from Milan to West Hollywood to make the event possible.

The entire women’s and men’s collection was packed into 50 trunks then worn by over 80 models on the runway.

Supermodel Naomi Campbell also walked the runway wearing a long, black halter dress and black leather gloves.

Other models include Emily Ratajkowski, Kendall Jenner, Adut Akech, Liu Wen, Mariacarla Boscono, Anok Yai, Imaan Hammam, Irina Shayk, and Vittoria Ceretti.

The collection as a whole featured a lot of black with pops of orange and pink. There were also a few tailored denim looks for a slightly more casual option. Male models wore snakeskin leather, sequined suit jackets, and square toe shoes.

Versace said that the collection was mostly inspired by their mid-1990s designs, specifically one of the collections by her late brother Gianni from 1995.

“[The concept is to] take away all the extra things on the dress and just go to the pureness of the cut and shape and quality of fabric. A little bit couture but not that expensive,” said the fashion designer.
