Miyazaki Wagyu Takes Center Stage At This Makati Hot Spot In February - Dine

The Miyazaki Gyu Beef Festival runs until the end of the month at The City Club’s Sakura. The event features an enticing menu, which was conceptualized with BGC’s Miyazaki Gyu.

Missing your seasonal trips to Japan? It might be a good idea to take a quick trip to Sakura this month. Housed in the exclusive The City Club, the restaurant serves both traditional and contemporary Japanese fare, from sushi to yakimono to teppanyaki. But this February, the spotlight will be on a favorite among meat lovers: Miyazaki Wagyu.

Beef Sashimi

Sakura’s Miyazaki Gyu Beef Festival is a month-long degustation of premium-cut dishes, and is a partnership between The City Club and Miyazaki Gyu in BGC. Their collaborative menu aims to celebrate the premium meat in all its bovine glory; exquisite dishes such as Beef Sashimi, Beef Teppanyaki with Truffled Mashed Potatoes and Sauteed Shiitake Mushrooms, Aburi Beef Sushi with Uni and Ikura, and Beef Tartare will be served and paired with a fine selection of wines and sake.

“We are very excited to have a partnership with Santi Araneta and his team from Miyazaki Gyu for this event,” shares Nic Belasco, The City Club’s general manager, who adds that that the festival is a first of its kind at the Makati address. Every night will follow strict health and sanitation guidelines for the safety of its members, guests, and employees.

Rated and qualified by the Japan Meat Grading Association and the Wagyu Registry Association, this sought-after cut of beef abides by strict standards. Only cattle with a grade of A4 and above from the Miyazaki prefecture could be deemed as Miyazaki Wagyu. It has a distinct cherry red color, velvet texture, and snowflake-like marbling, which provides ample flavor when seared.

Beef Sukiyaki

Miyazaki Wagyu is known for its wins at Japan’s Wagyu Olympics in 2007 and 2012, a competitive event held every five years. There, it bested over 400 brands two times within a decade. The meat also holds the “Prime Minister Award” at the National Competitive Exhibition of Wagyu which it has won for three consecutive years. It is the only wagyu brand to do so in the history of the exhibition.
