Met Gala 2022: The First-Timers Who Stunned on the Red Carpet - Lookbook

One Squid Game star wore a look inspired by 1800s oil paintings.

The Met Gala 2022 theme was “gilded glamor,” inspired by the museum’s exhibition titled “In America: An Anthology of Fashion.” Like last year, the concept celebrates America’s contributions to fashion—but with the opulence of the Gilded Age’s upper class.

However, although there were many arguments that barely anyone followed through with the theme (the regulars who usually do, like Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and Zendaya, were sadly no-shows), at least there were fresh faces on the Gala’s carpet.

From the cast members of the wildly successful series Bridgerton and Euphoria to a Winter Olympics athlete, we list the Gala first-timers who didn’t look shabby.

Jung Ho-Yeon

The South Korean actress, who became mainstream famous after starring in Squid Game, donned a look inspired by late 1800s oil paintings. Of course, Jung wore a mini dress by Louis Vuitton as she was named its global house ambassador for fashion, watches, and jewelry last October.

Austin Butler

The 30-year-old actor is playing “The King of Rock’ n’ Roll” Elvis Presley in an upcoming biopic directed by Baz Luhrmann. On the red carpet, Butler posed with Elvis’ former wife, Priscilla Presley, who also graced the event for the first time. Butler’s relaxed coat silhouette and tapered trousers are by Prada.

Chloe Kim

Kim, an American snowboarder and two-time Olympic gold medalist wore an attention-grabbing Giambattista Valli Couture gown. “I just wanted to do a beautiful, big ball gown, and he is the king of the ball gown[s], so I just had to, and I was so excited when I saw this dress,” the 22-year-old told Extra

Simone Ashley

Instead of feeling nervous, Ashley told Vogue she was more “excited” about attending the Gala for the first time. Perhaps, wearing a Moschino by Jeremy Scott removed some nerves. In fact, the designer was inspired by the “romance” from Bridgeton, the Netflix series Ashley appears in.

Regé-Jean Page

Another Bridgerton star who accepted the invite was Page. The “Duke of Hastings” wore an Amani velvet suit. The 34-year-old credited the suit for being “very comfortable”—something some guests probably can’t say about their looks.

 Maude Apatow

With her Euphoria castmates, Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi, Apatow made it to the Gala’s guest list. Unfortunately, the HBO series’ ultimate fashion star, Zendaya, didn’t make an appearance (she’s currently filming a movie); her co-stars embraced the theme. While wearing an off-shoulder number by Miu Miu, Apatow elevated the gilded glamor with 1920s-inspired hair.
