Meeting Halfway: Our Favorite Pieces From the Marni X Uniqlo Collaboration - Lookbook

Marni and Uniqlo’s spring/summer 2022 collection launches in stores on May 26.

For over a decade, Uniqlo has been collaborating with luxury designers, artists, and areas of pop culture. In the past, the Japanese brand founded in 1984 has worked with KAWS x Sesame Street, Jil Sander, Christophe Lemaire, Tomas Maier, JW Anderson, and most recently, Marni.

Marni x Uniqlo’s collection was first revealed earlier this month. While Uniqlo’s mainstay collections offer quality basics like undecorated t-shirts, thermal wear, and undergarments—Marni is quite the opposite.

The Francesco Risso-helmed brand is known for playful silhouettes colored by seventies florals, bold patterns, and soft checkered prints. However, the two big players in the high-end and high-street fashion markets find a happy middle for their joint collection.

Working together

“I’ve been hugely excited about this collaboration since the start,” Risso, Marni’s creative director, said in a statement

“Throughout the whole process, we have always championed Uniqlo’s ethos and the integrity that lies behind the brand’s vision, giving our interpretation of Uniqlo’s LifeWear through a slightly out-of-the-box proposition that combines impeccably crafted clothes with Marni’s offbeat and life-embracing spirit.”

Dressing easy

Uniqlo LifeWear is the brand’s answer to simple, everyday clothing. Like the original LifeWear offerings, the Spring/Summer 2022 collaboration includes both menswear and womenswear.

The same idea of LifeWear’s easy to wear principles is seen in the collection. There are loose Open Collar Short-Sleeve Pleated Dress, genderless Oversized Long-Sleeve Shirts, Relaxed Wide-Stright Pants, Crew Neck T-Shirts, and printed socks.

Instead of the basic shades of whites, grays, and blacks, each piece is detailed with summer-ready bold prints, lightweight ginghams, and relaxed cuts.

“I really hope that wearers feel good, that they feel themselves, that they feel free,” Risso added.

While we wait for the Uniqlo x Marni collection to drop in stores on May 26, here are our favorite pieces you can look out for.
