Upon examination by auction house experts, it was found that it was the wedding ring of Joan Brook, given to her by her husband, Thomas Brook. According to Noonans Mayfair’s press release, the couple wed in 1388, which brought wealth to the Brook family. Joan was the widow of Robert Cheddar, a successful cloth merchant and a politician who was Bristol’s mayor twice.
The text “leo vos tien foi tenes le moy” is engraved on the beans, which translates to “I hold your faith, hold mine.”
Board described finding the lost treasure as a “once-in-a-lifetime” find. “There will probably never be another one like it,” the 69-year-old told CNN. “Back then, each ring was individual and unique, not mass-produced like today. It’s stunning.”
