Longest Reign: Queen Elizabeth II Passes Away at 96, After Serving Her Kingdom for Seven Decades - The Scene

On Thursday, Queen Elizabeth II, the ​​UK’s longest-serving monarch, passed away at her Scottish estate. The Queen’s reign began in 1952 until her death. “We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished sovereign and a much-loved mother,” her son, now King Charles III, said

“I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.”

 On Thursday morning, Queen Elizabeth was placed under medical supervision in Balmoral Castle. Due to the professional’s concerns, senior royals, including the Queen’s children and grandchildren, traveled to Scotland to witness her final hours. 

Stability and strength

With his wife, Queen Consort Camilla, King Charles will address his nation from London on Friday, according to Buckingham Palace.

The new UK Prime Minister Liz Truss, appointed by the Queen just last Tuesday, said Her Majesty provided the country with the “stability and strength” it needed. On the commonwealth’s new King, Truss said, “We offer him our loyalty and devotion, just as his mother devoted so much, to so many, for so long.”

“And with the passing of the second Elizabethan age, we usher in a new era in the magnificent history of our great country, exactly as Her Majesty would have wished, by saying the words ‘God save the King’.”

On the Queen’s 21st birthday in 1947, while on a royal tour in South Africa, she dedicated her life to the throne. “I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong,” Her Majesty said in the speech.
