LA Asks: What’s Your Favorite Summer Destination? - LA Lives

Recently, one BTS fan watched three out of the band’s four concerts held in Las Vegas.

Travel is back! And many of our friends have taken advantage of the summer season to revisit their favorite places.

We ask Patti Grandidge Herrera, Salome Uy, Cheryl Tiu, and Adrienne Ley-Lorenzo about their go-to destinations and what makes them so unique.

You might want to take their recommendations for tropical, city, and cultural locations to explore.

Patti Grandidge Herrera

The food blogger says Hawaii is her favorite summer destination. “My parents took my brother and me on vacations there when we were younger,” she shares. “Later on, my husband and I started going as well. It would be a dream come true to take our children!”

Herrera adds that her fondest memory from her multiple Hawaii trips is hiking Oahu’s Koko Head for her mother’s 60th birthday.

While Hawaii’s islands offer everything from adventurous experiences to luxurious relaxation, Hererra recommends everyone to experience the “Aloha spirit.”

Salome Uy

Because she’s not fond of long plane rides, Uy loves visiting the eastern coast of Luzon’s Balesin Island Club. While it’s only a half-hour flight away, it has over ten restaurants (good food is a must for Uy) and island activities like windsurfing and sailing.

Since the Philippine fashion advocate loves taking her family to Balesin, milestones like her daughter Stefani’s first scuba diving experience were there.

Uy recommends others visit the island because, “It’s near, it’s safe, it’s paradise in the Philippines,” she shares. “Let’s support local tourism. Let’s love local.”

Cheryl Tiu

Instead of revisiting one destination, the fine dining specialist would explore new places. “I love going on off-the-beaten path travel destinations. Safety is the primary deciding factor,” she shares.

Although Tiu says there are “too many” memorable countries she’s visited, she notes Georgia, Ethiopia, Botswana, Israel, and Armenia.

When she’s in a new place, she thoroughly explores by meeting its locals and experiencing its culture through food and drink.

If she’s not traveling solo or with friends, Tiu has gone on group trips with people she’s only met once—or even those she’s never met. “It allows me to go out of my comfort zone,’ she says.

Adrienne Ley-Lorenzo

Not a fan of the Philippines’ summer heat, Lorenzo would visit Europe annually with her family and friends. Although, due to the pandemic, it’s been three years since the group traveled together.

However, this year, Lorenzo’s summer vacation was to celebrate her March wedding anniversary.

“My husband, Philippe, and I were in LA and Las Vegas for almost a month. It was our first trip in 2 years! We went there to watch the BTS concert since I’m a huge fan, and my husband is simply the most supportive ARMY hubby ever,” she shares.

The couple watched three out of four BTS concerts held in Vegas, and they were experiences Lorenzo won’t forget. “The crowd and the energy of the ARMY is just crazy. Seeing the members live after watching all their online concerts was so surreal,” she adds.

Lorenzo enjoys traveling because it gives her fresh perspectives. In addition, she never feels too homesick because “there are Pinoys everywhere.”

“Pinoys are so warm and friendly, and you’ll always feel at home with our kabayans,” she says.
