Key of Rock: Who Attended the 11th Mega Ball on Independence Day—and What They Wore - The Scene

For the dress code, attendees were encouraged “to rework, re-style and reimagine pieces that they already have in the spirit of sustainability.”

It was a night of glam rock for The Mega Ball’s return after a two-year pandemic hiatus. Held on June 12 in time for Independence Day, the Ball celebrated Filipino talent and artistry across industries while commemorating the magazine’s 30th anniversary.

“This is the eleventh edition of the Mega Ball. Its return after the pandemic signals a new hope and a new era for mega and our industry,” Peewee Isidro, the editor-in-chief of Mega Magazine and VP of Content One MEGA Group, said.

Rocking out

“It is a cause for celebration as we continue to highlight Filipino excellence and stay true to our purpose.”

Clad in leather and metal studs, celebrities and society members dressed to the theme of “Glam Rock: A Performance of Style.” While the British rock scene of the seventies inspired the style, it had a resurgence in the early aughts.

In line with this, Isidro says they encouraged guests “to rework, re-style and reimagine pieces that they already have in the spirit of sustainability.”

Pinoy Pride

The event also doubles as an awards night. The Pinoy Pride awardees include personalities and organizations that carry our flag on the world stage or champion local trades.

The honorees include Olympic gold-medalist Hidliyn Diaz, internationally acclaimed fashion star Heart Evangelista, LGBTQIA+ community advocate Pia Wurtzbach, social enterprise ArteFino, and cultural heritage brand Filip+Inna.

Although Diaz and Evangelista accepted their awards virtually, the ballroom was filled with a star-studded guest list.
