The Korean pop idol of Thai descent broke the previous record by a massive 11.4 million views—the previous title holder was Taylor Swift with her singleMe!,” which was released in April 2019. Swift’s track gained 65.2 million views in 24 hours.

Going solo

Manoban is not the first Blackpink member to start a solo career. It started with Jennie in 2018 with her track aptly titled “Solo,” while Rosé dropped her first single album named last March.

The latter also broke World Records with her debut single, “On The Ground.” Rosé’s track reached number one on both the Global Billboard and Billboard Global US charts on March 27.

The Korean-New Zealand singer became the first member of Blackpink that climbed to the number one spot on the Billboard charts without her group.

Only Jisoo of the four-member K-pop group hasn’t put out music on her own; however, she’s set to star in the K-drama series Snowdrop.

The love story will be set in Seoul in the eighties and will tell a love story of college students. Jisoo will play the character of Young Ro, a student at the school who protects the character of well-known Korean actor Jung-Hae-in.

Records together

Although Blackpink’s members are building successful careers by themselves, it’s due to their achievements as a group that launched in 2016.

The music video of their hit song How You Like That broke three World Records last year. The video gained 86.3 million views in 24 hours, earning them the awards of most-viewed YouTube video in 24 hours, most viewed music video in 24 hours, and most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours by a K-pop group.

At the time, they beat previous titleholders Ariana Grande for thank u, next (55.5 million views), and Taylor Swifts’ “Look What You Made Me Do” (43.2 million views).

However, the current titleholder of the records is K-Pop group BTS’ music video for Butter which received 108.2 million views within 24 hours last May.
