The creative has rediscovered her passion for painting in the middle of the lockdown.
Reinvigorated artist Rosenthal Tee will be showing her art work in a physical exhibit for the first time starting this Sunday.
As a fashion designer with scant few to create for in the middle of the lockdown, Tee felt constrained and decided to revisit her passion for art. “I suppose that painting really paved the way for me to find my center and appreciate the privilege of having space to express my art and be surrounded by nature’s beauty,” the Instituto Marangoni honors graduate told Lifestyle Asia last year.
Tee describes her recent return to art as “coming full circle.” As a young woman, she would attend weekend workshops and summer short courses at UP Fine Arts for Painting in Acrylic and Oil Mediums, and train under the likes of Fernando Sena and Beth Morris.
“I dabbled in pastel, watercolor, oil and acrylic formats in the subject matter of still life’s and nudes,” she shares. “Funnily enough I think the exposure to drawing figures in nude informed my interest in the body and the creation of clothing.”
While her work has been available online before, “In the Spaces Between,” the show that opens on Sunday, is the first time that they will be proudly on display for in-person viewing. Tee describes her art as a “visual narrative around the phenomenology of nature and the spaces we occupy.”
These works are an “attempt to display a consciousness in our surrounding environment, and how the viewer constitutes their place in the world of nature. The result is an exhilarating display of energy and serenity, with exuberant use of nuanced color in the schema of foliage, sea, and space.”
“In the Spaces Between” is on exhibit from February 6 to 18, 2022, between 11 A.M. to 6 P.M. at Secret Fresh Gallery, Ronac Art Center.
