In All Its Feminine Glory: Witness the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Lady-Datejust - Objects of luxury

As a timepiece that embraces its inherent femininity, the heir to the Rolex Datejust aims to grace your wrist as prestige and elegance personified

Nothing says class like a Rolex. As a trademark steeped in decades of unbridled heritage and revered for its standard of world class ingenuity, Rolex always strives to outdo its own legacy. The most recent testament to this penchant for excellence rests in the latest generation of Oyster Perpetual timepieces; of which the Lady-Datejust poisefully sits at the center of all the pageantry. Take a look at this emblematic date chronometer in-depth and discover how it has been able to concentrate all of the attributes of the past Datejusts while adding a unique feminine spirit suited for the wrist of a modern woman.

Making her own mark

As descendants of the world’s first waterproof wristwatch, the DNA of each timepiece that comes from the Oyster Perpetual range is intertwined with instant recognizability and significant respect. Since its birth in 1945, the Oyster Perpetual’s female watch, the Lady-Datejust, has steadily built its own legend in the last seven decades in becoming a byword for robust style and technical performance.

The benchmark that makes the success of a Rolex watch lies in the stature of its wearers. In the Lady-Datejust’s case, it has earned its status in gracing the wrists of influential icons from the likes of Grace Kelly, Hillary Clinton, Anna Nordqvist, and Rihanna.

With such star-studded acclaim, Rolex sought to write the next stage of the Lady-Datejust’s natural evolution by incorporating the necessary improvements and adjustments to make it the ultimate timepiece of the modern woman.

Her unrivalled precision

Like all Rolex watches, the Lady-Datejust is covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015; an exclusive designation that testifies that every watch leaving the brand’s workshops has successfully undergone a series of tests conducted by Rolex in its own laboratories and according to its own criteria. Symbolized by the green seal that comes with every Rolex watch, the Superlative Chronometer status is coupled with an international five-year guarantee.

The precision of every Lady-Datejust undergoes meticulous measures far stricter than the requirements for official certification as a chronometer by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC). Tested a second time by Rolex after being cased, the precision of a Rolex Superlative Chronometer is of the order of −2/+2 seconds per day—a rate deviation significantly smaller than that accepted by COSC for official certification of the movement alone.

The primary contributor to this certification lies in the in-house movement that the Lady-Datejust comes equipped with. Entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex, the calibre 2236 is a multi-patented self-winding mechanical movement that offers an unparalleled level of performance in terms of precision, power reserve, resistance to shocks and magnetic fields, convenience and reliability. This one-of-a-kind movement will only ever be seen only by certified Rolex watchmakers, yet it is beautifully finished and decorated in keeping with the brand’s uncompromising quality standards.

Her impeccable identity

The Lady-Datejust’s Oyster case is sized at 28 milimeter in diameter and guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 100 meters or 330 feet. The middle case can be crafted from a solid block of Oystersteel—a particularly corrosion-resistant alloy—or from 18 carat gold. The case back, edged with fine fluting, is hermetically screwed down with a special tool that allows only certified Rolex watchmakers to access the movement. The Twinlock winding crown, fitted with a double waterproofness system, screws down securely against the case. The scratch-proof sapphire crystal comes with the iconic Cyclops lens at 3 o’clock for easy reading of the date. As a paragon of robustness, proportion, and elegance, the waterproof Oyster case provides optimum protection for the Lady-Datejust’s movement.

The Lady-Datejust shines a special radiance of 18 carats whether you choose to wear it with a yellow, white or Everose gold finish. With Rolex having its own top-class foundry that alloys gold using only the purest raw materials, every piece of the Lady-Datejust is carried out with meticulous care to ensure its uncompromising quality from casting to shaping and polishing.

With metal properties comparable to that of precious metals, you will never make a mistake in choosing Oystersteel for any of your Rolex timepieces

Everose gold, an exclusive 18 carat pink gold alloy developed and patented by Rolex, owes its unique hue to its composition.

Depending on your taste, the Lady-Datejust can be worn on a three-piece link Oyster bracelet with a folding Oysterclasp, on a five-piece link Jubilee bracelet—created in 1945 especially for the Datejust—with a Crownclasp; or on a three-piece link President bracelet with a Crownclasp. A concealed attachment system ensures seamless visual continuity between the bracelet and case. The Lady-Datejust’s Oyster bracelet also features Rolex’s Easylink comfort extension link, which allows the wearer to easily increase the bracelet length by approximately 5 millimeters for additional comfort in any circumstance. The President bracelet includes ceramic inserts inside the links to enhance its flexibility and longevity.
