EXO’s Sehun was recently revealed to be the face of the Dior x Sacai capsule collection, a collaboration that was announced earlier this year.
The Kpop star, who became a Dior Men ambassador late last year, shared photos of himself wearing pieces from the collection on his instagram last week.
This collection has been widely anticipated, with many looking forward to what kind of magic that Dior artistic director Kim Jones and Sacai founder Chitose Abe can come up with.
“Dior Couture and Sacai Hybrids make for a beautiful mix,” says Abe in a behind-the-scenes video explaining the collection. “In terms of design, the starting point was a coach jacket on which we added outdoor details, such as on the zips and pockets. The fabric was made with an old machine, which gives a different aspect compared to the denim used today.”
The DNA of Sacai is Hybrid, an idea that permeates a collection punctuated by a color palette primarily in black and white. “Each human has different facets. At Sacai, our work around hybrids reflects these different facets.”
Marrying styles
The reinterpretation of the emblematic “Dior” signature embodies the creative exchange between the two brands: the name Sacai figures within the ‘i’ in the Dior signature.
Looks combine Dior tailoring and savoir-faire with the Japanese brand’s sportswear style and technicality. Denim enhances pieces fusing workwear cuts with functional details, finished with a refined couture touch.
Dior symbols, such as supple berets designed by stephen jones, are revisited while bags from the saddle universe are reinvented in vibrant shades of olive and orange. This echoes Sacai’s essential bomber jacket.
This capsule illustrates a vision in motion, a captivating meeting of two artists. A beautiful mix indeed.
