Heaven on Earth: Palawan Named the World’s 'Most Desirable Island' by UK’s Longest-Running Travel Publication - Travel

In response to the recognition, Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco said, “Rest assured that we will continue with our mission to herald the Philippines and the Filipino brand to the world and to ensure the continued sustainability of our islands.”

For 21 years, the UK-based Wanderlust Travel Awards has recognized global tourism boards, tour operators, guides and destinations, and even travel personalities. In 2022, Palawan was named the world’s “most desirable island.”

“The Philippines is an archipelago with more than 2,000 inhabited islands, yet Wanderlust readers have selected Palawan to be not just the best in the country, but the best in the world,” writes the travel publication. “The scenery here is heaven on earth with sparkling waters and white sand beaches. One of the most photographed sites is Kayangan, a dazzling freshwater lake with spectacular rock formations above and below the surface.”

While Palawan placed Gold at the top spot, two other islands were featured for Silver and Bronze: Tobago and Viti Letu, respectively. Meanwhile, Cebu was placed as a nominee this year as Most Desirable Region.

In response, Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco said, “these awards reflect the efforts to revive the tourism industry that are well underway, especially because of the Marcos administration’s thrust towards prioritizing tourism development.

“Rest assured that we will continue with our mission to herald the Philippines and the Filipino brand to the world and to ensure the continued sustainability of our islands.”
