These eclectic donuts are creating a buzz

When asked why their flavors are unapologetically Filipino, Rogue Doughnuts’ Josser Quillendrino says it is by design. “It is through this limitation that our creativity thrives,” he says. “When you obsess yourself with a singular thing, it becomes more than just passion, it becomes artistry.” He and co-founder Ralph Montejo express this in their 11 donuts (which are all made by hand) and their drinks list.

“We first look at what’s available, what ingredients can we locally source, and how we can present them in a different light,” Quillendrino explains. “Much of it is nostalgia, most of our flavors are things you’ve probably enjoyed growing up—dilis, lemon square, chocnut, burong kamias.”

He says that they always want to capture the things we collectively enjoyed and present them in a different way. When you find the edge in local ingredients, he explains, it is when they take on a different meaning altogether.

Complementing their donut line—which has unusual or regionally-inspired flavors like Patis Honey Glazed, Peanut Kisses Crunch, White Chocolate Malunggay, Dayap Cheesecake Crumble, and Spicy Dilis—is their beverage line. These include the Pili Nut Latte, Kamias Panucha, Sagada Coffee Kombucha, and their hit drink Ube Baterol, which constantly draws a long line when available.

Rogue Donuts is Lane O of Bonigacio High Street in BGC, Taguig. They will soon open in Podium in Ortigas. For more information, visit RogueDoughnuts.com.
