EV Wave: This Famous Dune Buggy From the Sixties Is Going Electric - Play

The Meyer Manx 2.0, which starts production in 2023, will be the first EV of its kind.

Meyers Manx, the creators of the famous 1960s dune buggy popularized by Elvis Presley in Live a Little, Love a Little, and Steve McQueen in the Thomas Crown Affair, is updating the vehicle. After nearly sixty years since its release, the new model titled Meyer Manx 2.0 will be completely electric—the first of its kind. Although the vehicle will stay reminiscent of the original, it’s getting updates.

According to Designboom, it will weigh lighter at 680 kg, can speed up to 202 horsepower, and have a battery base of 20 kWh battery with a range of 150 miles. This will provide acceleration of 0-100 kilometers per hour in an estimated 2.5 seconds

Continuing legacy 

However, an option for a 40 kWh battery with a range of 300 miles will also be available. “The Meyers Manx has always been a symbol of joy, simplicity, and purity. It’s the solution to the complexity of life,” said Phillip Sarofim, Meyers Manx’s company chairman.

“It’s simple and endearing and taps into the spirit of playfulness. The ageless design brings out your inner child. It’s about passion,” Thomas continues. The electric dune buggy will start production next year.
