Do You Believe: Donatella Versace and Cher Team Up for a Capsule Collection Celebrating Pride Month - Lookbook

Chersace includes hand-singed diamante t-shirts for $3,350.

June is Pride Month, and two famous LGBTQIA+ allies have joined forces to not only celebrate but also spread awareness and donate funds to support the community.

Cher and Donatella Versace have launched Chersace (not to be confused with Fendace, the brand’s collaboration with Fendi), a collection of t-shirts, socks, and baseball hats in a rainbow iteration of Versace’s Medusa logo.

“Donatella and I have been dear friends for a lifetime,” Cher said in a media release. “It just felt right for our very first collaboration to be one about LGBTQ Pride and celebrating a community that means so incredibly much to both of us.”

Community support

Every purchase of the limited capsule collection benefits Gender Spectrum, a US charity that assists social groups for parents, guardians, and family members in supporting their gender-diverse children and teens.

The collection’s highlight is the diamante shirt, hand-signed by Donatella and Cher, retailing for $3,350. For comparison, the versions with their printed signatures are priced at $425.

In 2020, in an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, the singer opened up about her son, Chaz Bono’s, gender transition.

“It was very unlike me to, in the beginning, have a problem with Chaz being gay, and it disappeared like that,” she recalled in the article. “Then we talked about transgender for many years. And then [he] would say, ‘No, I don’t want to do it [transition].’

Known for inclusivity

Bono, who was born female, started transitioning in 2008. “But you don’t really lose them. They just are in a different shape,” the 76-year-old added.

Meanwhile, with the Versace Foundation, Donatella is working toward various efforts to advance equality, wellness, and safety for the LGBTQIA+ community. At the beginning of the month, multinational fashion company Capri Holdings (which owns Versace, Michael Kors, and Jimmy Choo) pledged $10 million to the organization.

“I’m proud that Versace has always been known for its inclusivity. I am excited for the support and assistance The Versace Foundation will bring to the LGBTQIA+ community,” the chief creative officer said in a statement.
