Disco Fever: Chris Nick’s S/S 22 Collection Merges His Love for the Seventies and the Return of the Y2K Aesthetic - Lookbook

The new campaign features his latest collection styled with jewelry from Tiffany & Co.

In his last Fall 2021 collection last September, fashion designer Chris Nick Delos Reyes, commonly known as Chris Nick, made pieces in anticipation of the return of nightlife. He felt women were itching to get dressed and hit the town, so he prepared their wardrobes with sharp tailoring, skin-revealing silhouettes, and a nod to Studio 54 glamor.

Now, MEGA’s 2021 Fashion Awards Designer To Watch is applying a new angle in his Spring/Summer 2022 collection while staying true to clean lines and elegant edginess—the design elements he says are distinctly his brand. In the new campaign, Delos Reyes also styled his collection with jewelry from Tiffany & Co.

“My recent trip to New York City introduced me to a new perspective of embracing newness and sexuality and fueled my obsession with discotheque even more—an element always present in the collections I’ve made in the past,” Delos Reyes says in a press release.

Past and present

With an amplified passion for the seventies’ disco era, the designer fuses the inspiration with the booming return of Y2K fashion trends. Delos Reyes shares he was only five years old in the early 2000s; he lived vicariously through the era’s “fabulous women” with magazines, TV, and surfing on the internet.

However, although some of his ideas are sparked by the past, he also gained inspiration from the present.

“One thing important to do with fashion is to capture a moment by taking what is currently happening and being aware of that and turning it into something real,” he says. “Creating something for the contemporary [and] current woman.”

Embodying that, Delos Reyes’ new Made to Measure collection features short hems, his label’s first footwear (the Club Platform), and nineties silhouettes like micro-mini skirts and sheer cover-ups.

Mirroring the times

In addition, the fashion design and marketing graduate creates his take on a modern filipiniana. “Truly, it’s a beautiful piece of history, and I would like to change the perspective that wearing a filipiniana is synonymous [with] a themed costume party or a formal event. I want to see it out in the evening on women having fun and feeling sensual in it and not restricted,” he says.

De Los Reyes connects his pieces to what’s happening in the world because he believes fashion mirrors the present society and culture.

“In a way that may seem trendy, but there’s a way something can be relevant and current [but] at the same time timeless and elegant,” he shares.
