Desert Paradise: Practice Yoga Atop Rock Formations and Perform Grounding Rituals at This Luxury Utah Resort - Travel

The secluded resort sits in in Canyon Point, a four-hour drive from Las Vegas.

While bustling cities like New York and remote islands like Bora Bora are familiar vacation spots to the leisure traveler, desert sojourns might be overlooked. After all, when you think of a desert, a picture of dried soil and harsh sun may come to mind—which isn’t too enticing. However, Utah’s Amangiri can possibly change your whole idea of a desert vacation.

Amangiri’s wellness spa and fitness facilities use over 25,000 square feet of desert. Right on the theme, the spa offers therapies inspired by the holistic well-being traditions of the Navajo.

Located in Canyon Point (a four-hour drive from Las Vegas), Amangiri “blends into the untouched red-rock country, over 900 acres of the vast and majestic Colorado Plateau,” which the property describes as the original Wild West.

Its accommodations embrace the rocky landscape by offering private panoramic views.

Much like what to expect in the Aman destinations present in 20 countries, Amangiri provides personalized service, aiming to represent the pinnacle of luxury. “Everyone seems to know you—it’s as if you’ve been coming here your entire life,” writes Conde Nast Traveller’s Becca Hensley in a review. “The concierge is king, organizing dinosaur digs and canyon trips, so you don’t miss anything.”

Its accommodations embrace the rocky landscape by offering panoramic views through its four-bedroom Mesa Home, one-bedroom Private Canyon Pavilion, Girijaala Suite, and Desert Suite—just some examples of its product offerings.

Beyond massages, beauty treatments, and restorative therapies, there are grounding rituals and yoga on the rocks. The latter lets participants practice yoga after a short hike to the top of a rock formation.

At the same time, Amangiri’s wellness spa and fitness facilities use over 25,000 square feet of desert. Right on the theme, the spa offers therapies inspired by the holistic well-being traditions of the Navajo. The concept, named “hózhó,” is the state of being in tune with the self and harmony with the world.

Beyond massages, beauty treatments, and restorative therapies, there are grounding rituals and yoga on the rocks. The latter lets participants practice yoga after a short hike to the top of a rock formation to experience the movements closer to the sky. Amangiri says although any time would be “magnificent” to try, it’s highly recommended during sunrise.
