Creating Timelessness: Two Experienced Names in Fashion Team Up for a Custom Bridal Label - Lookbook

Have your wedding dress custom-made if RTW lines aren’t offering your ideal piece.

Isle, a custom bridalwear brand, brings together two experienced names in the Philippine fashion industry.

Cathleen Sobrevega, a celebrity and marketing campaign stylist, has worked for twelve years. Her portfolio includes dressing Dominique Cojuangco, Julia Barretto, Angel Locsin, and Denise Laurel for magazine covers and brand campaigns. In addition, Sobrevega co-owns the versatile jewelry label Nami.

“We knew that our strengths would complement one another, and it was inevitable for us to start our own brand,” Sobrevega tells Lifestyle Asia.

Meanwhile, Carin Aguas has had tailoring experiences for 15 years. Aguas designs for her brands Masanting Sastreria and Studio Sampaguita for tailored casuals.

Complementing talents

After sharing their talents with the local fashion scene, Sobrevega and Aguas consider working together a natural progression. “We knew that our strengths would complement one another, and it was inevitable for us to start our own brand,” Sobrevega tells Lifestyle Asia.

“Much like our brand Isle, which symbolizes a coming together of separate worlds, joined by a similar notion, belief, or culture. Isle is a coming together of our strengths; timeless style and high-quality pieces.”

Currently, Isle only offers custom pieces for bridal gowns, suits, and luxury separates. While working with their clients is a must, they say communication and keeping clients informed are vital.

With their “obsession” for detail, Isle’s co-founders want to bring the dream pieces of their brides and clients to life.

Regarding how they start every collaboration, the co-founders ask clients what they’re looking for, how they want to feel, and even share styling recommendations. From there, Sobrevega and Aguas begin designing pieces—with timelessness as the central concept.

But what makes a garment classic? For Isle, it means pieces that “show quality craftsmanship both in technique and material selection; whatever silhouette that may be.”

Constantly learning

Although they’re armed with 27 years of collective experience, beginning a new brand always introduces challenges. Interestingly, what motivated Aguas to partner with Sobrevega was her pandemic realizations.

“Much like our brand Isle, which symbolizes a coming together of separate worlds, joined by a similar notion, belief, or culture. Isle is a coming together of our strengths; timeless style and high-quality pieces,” Aguas says.

“Creating women’s clothing has always been my dream, but I never really started because I was just waiting for the right opportunity,” she shares.

“These past couple of years, things slowed down, and it gave me a lot of time to pray and reflect. I reached out to Cath, and I’m happy to say that we’re both excited and very blessed to be able to do this. Our partnership continues to grow as we explore how to make Isle more sustainable and timeless.”
