The Philosophy of Harmony

Pun Choi, a mouthwatering dish also known as “basin food”, will take center stage at Canton Road this Chinese New Year. This traditional delicacy is a treasure trove of ingredients meticulously put together in a single bowl. Ingredients include a mix of shrimp, flower mushroom, chicken, roast duck, sea moss fish ball, dry oyster, abalone, sea cucumber, fish maw, lettuce and broccoli in oyster sauce. It’s like putting all your favorite Chinese ingredients together, and enjoying each and every one in a single bite of heaven. Preparation of the dish is said to represent “the philosophy of harmony”. Traditionally offered to gods and ancestors during festivals and celebrations in China, Pun Choi will help bring in luck and peace during the Year of the Earth Pig.

Chef Wang Wei Qing has also prepared other traditional dishes that will titillate the palette. For instance, Yee Sang will be also be available. The raw fish salad (using Norwegian salmon) can be used for the annual “Prosperity Toss” (tossing your food together with a pair of chopsticks). Canton Road’s reputation as a leading Chinese restaurant in Manila has grown over the years. Don’t forget to order their other specialties during your celebratory meal. We highly recommend the sucking pig, which is stuffed with fragrant glutinous rice. The dish is associated with royal banquets and represents prosperity. Also highly suggested for indulgent feasting are pork knuckles and salmon head dishes.
