Anything Is Possible, Almost: A CGI Marilyn Monroe Will Appear on CR Fashion Book Wearing Today’s Top Luxury Brands - Arts & Culture

The fifties bombshell will wear physical designs by Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, and Fendi, among others.

CR Fashion Book China collaborates with tech startup Amethyst to produce eight CGI images of Marilyn Monroe for their April cover. Following their release, the photos will be separately minted as NFTs, “demonstrating a new way Web 3.0 technology can be used to revive the past.”

The bi-annual publication was founded by French Vogue’s former editor Carine Roitfeld in 2012. On what fifties bombshell will be wearing, Roitfeld chose brands she imagined Monroe would wear in the modern day: Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Thom Browne, Fendi, David Koma, and Miu Miu.

It’s a timely project with Netflix’s release of Blonde later this year—a biopic about Monroe where Cuban-Spanish Ana de Armas will be playing the actress. The film is the first Netflix original rated NC-17 for sexual content.

In hi-resolution

“It’s easy to forget that one of the most photographed women in the world was captured in the days of film, not pixels,” Jim Gibb, the creative director of the Marilyn Monroe Estate, told Vogue Business.

“We will never know what she would have looked like in hi-resolution, but it was fun to attempt to capture some of her essence and beauty through CGI technology and imagine what she would have looked like wearing today’s top designers.”

The estate is under the New York-based Authentic Brand Group, which also owns fashion house Herve Leger, jeweler Neil Lane, and the estate of late boxing champion Muhammad Ali.

However, the to-be minted NFTs of the late actress won’t be the first offered on the blockchain.

Last June, in honor of Monroe’s 95th birthday, an NFT collection titled “Marilyn Monroe Metamorphosis”was launched on the Ethernity blockchain. It featured artwork from emerging international artists curated with the estate’s help.
