Fighting Back: Angelina Jolie's Former Company Countersues Brad Pitt Over Winery For $250M - Trending

The Academy Award-winning actress gets the last word in this legal battle.

Angelina Jolie’s former company, Nouvel, has filed a $250-million countersuit against her ex-husband Brad Pitt over their winery Château Miraval.

Previously, Pitt accused Jolie of intentionally damaging the said winery’s reputation by selling her stake to a “stranger.”

The former Hollywood couple bought the château as a home and the vineyard as a family business. They would spend the holidays at the property and even exchanged vows there in 2014.

Pitt’s court filing said his ex-wife “contributed nothing to Miraval’s success.” Meanwhile, Jolie’s camp accused her ex-husband of “waging a vindictive war.”

According to Nouvel’s lawsuit, Pitt “masterminded a so-far-successful plan to seize control of Chateau Miraval” as well as “embarked on a multifaceted, yearslong campaign to seize control of Chateau Miraval and appropriate the company’s assets for his benefit and that of his own companies and friends.”

“Pitt has frozen Nouvel out of Chateau Miraval and treats it as his personal fiefdom,” the countersuit read.

It further disputed Pitt’s claims in his earlier lawsuit: “Pitt refused to grant Jolie or Nouvel equal access to Chateau Miraval’s records or an equal voice over management…holding the most significant part of her net worth hostage.”

Payback

Jolie in October 2021 sold her stake to Tenute del Mondo. Pitt’s team described this as a “hostile third-party competitor bent on taking control of Miraval.”

Pitt has asked for a trial by jury, seeking damages “in an amount to be proven at trial.”

This is on top of his desire to declare Jolie’s sale “null and void.” In turn, Nouvel seeks at least $250 million in compensatory damages.
