Oktoberfest is fast approaching. In fact, the first day of the German celebration starts this Thursday, October 4, 2018, at the Solaire Resort & Casino and will run all the way to Saturday. Expected to be the German Club’s biggest Oktoberfest celebration yet, we’ve listed down three reasons why you need to join in on the boozy fun…
It’s a 200-Year-Old Traditional
The origins of the celebration dates back to October 12, 1810, when Prince Ludwig I of Germany married Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. The locals were so charmed and excited by their new Crown Princess that they had a weeklong celebration on the streets of Munich—drinking beer, singing and dancing, and enjoying local cuisine. Hundreds of years later, the traditional stuck, and Oktoberfest has delighted millions of drinkers across the world. Roughly 6 million people pilgrimage to Munich each year, with over 7 million liters of beer consumed during the duration of the festival.
Today, Germans living in every corner of the globe organizes their own version of Oktoberfest. In the Philippines, the German Club Manila has kept the traditional alive in Manila. This year was announced to be their biggest Oktoberfest yet, finding a new home at Solaire Resort & Casino’s 2,400 square meter big Solaire Oktoberfest Tent.

The Event Promises a Gastronomical Experience
The German Club is eager to pay homage to their culture, which is what Oktoberfest is all about. In an effort to recreate the Munich-based celebration as closely as possible, they have prepared a gastronomical feast that will have your mouth watering. They’ve enlisted the help of the hotel’s German Chef, Michael Dinges, for an authentic Bavarian spread, which will include over 15,000 in-house made pretzels, schnitzel, pork knuckles (which Filipinos love to compare to the local crispy pata), and sausages. Solaire has announced that over 5000 kilos of pork has been ordered just for the three-day event!
Chef Michael shared that his homemade sausages are from a family recipe. Invented by his grandfather who owned butcher shops in Germany, he was taught how to make it as a child. He expressed his excitement on being able to share the heirloom recipe to the Oktoberfest goers of Manila. To ideally match the German chef’s culinary creations, Weihenstephan, the world’s oldest brewery, will be coming in for the Manila celebration, providing 25,000 liters of their famous wheat beer.
It’s Always a Lot of Fun
For those who have attended an Oktoberfest celebration before, you know exactly how fun and wild it gets. Each year, the German Club always brings it up a notch, encouraging guests to participate in drinking games and song and dance numbers. The 12-man German band called the Bavarian Sound Express is flying in from Germany just for the party. Thrilling draws and drinking games are also in the program. In addition, the wait staff is more than happy to serve you unlimited beer while wearing their customary dimdl dresses and lederhosens! The party often reaches the wee hours of the morning, so don’t forget to book a hotel room at the resort.
