Luxury French maison Hermès continues to push boundaries in retail, this time through a hardware store carrying the new petit h collection called La Quincaillerie. Staged in collaboration with designers Stefania Di Petrillo and Godefroy de Virieu, the new section at the store on 17, rue de Sèvres, Paris looks like it came straight out of a film by American auteur Wes Anderson. Featuring an array of quirky, everyday tools, you can now fix any broken item at home with your choice of Hermès gear.

Need to polish your shoes? No problem. La Quincaillerie carries a gorgeous wooden tool for it, improved with a pop of color in red and green for its fine brush bristles. Fixing a broken sink or cabinet has never been more luxurious when using a Hermès hammer or screwdriver. They aren’t your typical home apparatuses, since they have been fixed with sheathed leather on the handles. These tools were surely made for anyone longing to make mundane chores glamorous.
Every home bar owner must also check out the new store’s selection of bar instruments and items, which include leather aprons, wine case openers, and corkscrews, all made by the brand’s skilled artisans. Despite the stores quirky nature, Hermès has taken the time to ensure the durability and function of each of their hardware products. It is only a plus point that they have a timeless look and appeal. The brand encourages that everybody should give it a try, there’s no time for being DIY-shy!

The collection also pays homage to the legacy of tools, which they state are “an extension of a craftsman’s hand and mind. They are the sense and very essence of Hermès.” In fact, the premium French brand that we all love today didn’t even start in the fashion world. They began in the world of hardware, creating fine wrought harnesses and bridles for carriages. As their reputation as fine leather craftsmen spread through Europe and the world, they decided to expand into bags. The rest is history.
So who knows, a piece of Hermès hardware from the La Quincaillerie collection might be the next phase for the juggernaut brand. If not, at least you have designer nails plated in gold to use whenever you need them.
