Fans of the beloved mooncake pastry are in for a treat this August and September. Canton Road, Shangri-La at the Fort’s signature Chinese restaurant, is releasing their line of contemporary mooncakes in honor of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Originally a tribute to the end of the harvest season, the festival’s origin goes way back to ancient times, when the wife of a Chinese hero drank a magical tonic which made her into the moon. It falls every year on the 15th day of the 8th month on the lunar calendar, when the moon is supposedly at its brightest and fullest. The sweet pastry known as the mooncake is a traditional staple—a special treat many look forward to during the vibrant lunar festivities.

Customarily filled with lotus or sweet bean paste with a salted egg yolk in the center, Canton Road is bringing their mooncake into the modern age with their sweet and savory collection. Selections in their contemporary line include such flavors like the Red Velvet and Black Forest mooncakes. In addition, they’ll be releasing a traditional line as well, which includes the Flaky Pineapple, White Lotus with Salted Egg Yolk, and Flaky Red Bean with Pine Nuts and Mixed Nuts. Each individual mooncake will be priced at PHP 388 per piece.
The hotel is also making the purchase of the sweet delight quite easy this season. They will be opening their mooncake counter at the hotel lobby, where Shangri-La mooncake boxes (ideal for gifting to family, friends and business colleagues) will be available for purchase. Choose from two different gift sets—the Classic Box (with 8 miniature mooncakes) will be priced at PHP 2,888++, while the Deluxe Box (containing 12 miniature mooncakes) will have the retail price of PHP 3,988. Guests may opt to purchase individual orders as well.

Although the festival begins later this month, the luxury hotel is allowing patrons to pre-order mooncake boxes in advance. Save 25% on all boxed orders from August 13 to August 26, not valid on per piece basis, with no minimum or maximum order required. Closing day for order form submissions is on September 24, 2018. Bulk orders of over 10 boxes require 48 hours notice. All prices are subject to tax.
