Iconic NYC Institution “Magnolia Bakery” Has Opened Its Doors in the Philippines - Food & Travel

The culinary “To Do list” of Filipinos visiting New York City is a long one. Michelin fare is best enjoyed at the highly regarded Eleven Madison Park, while there is no other place to satisfy a burger fix as Shake Shack (which is coming to the Philippines soon). The original West Village bakery first opened in the summer of ’96, and has gained much fanfare from locals and tourists alike for its warm atmosphere and delicious offerings. It has long since become a NYC institution and hot spot.

By 2007, new owners Steve and Tyra Abrams expanded the business across the globe, opening branches across the United States, and in Seoul, Mexico City, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait City, Riyadh, Amman and Doha internationally. In 2018, Manila, Philippines has joined the “Magnolia Bakery Cities”, with the recent launch of M Bakery last August 22. Now you can have a little piece of New York in the palm of your hands, through the brand’s freshly baked cakes, cookies, and cupcakes made fresh daily at the Bonifacio Global City branch.

“With the passion Filipinos have for food—and particularly sweets—we are excited to be bringing Magnolia Bakery’s iconic bakery experience to the Philippines,” shared Magnolia Bakery CEO Steve Abrams. “With M Bakery, we are committed to sharing the same NYC experience with guests in Manila, making freshly baked desserts by hand in small batches, the live theater of icing cakes and cupcakes and warm, inviting customer service. We look forward to celebrating life’s sweetest moments with patrons from around the Philippines.”

The new branch tries to recreate the Manhattan experience by bringing in the same vintage and homey atmosphere, excellent customer service, and unique sensory experience as the Magnolia Bakery branches in the United States. In addition, the Icing Theater allows patrons to peek into M Bakery’s kitchen and see the behind-the-scenes action live. “From the aroma of the freshly baked cookies coming out of the oven to the cakes and cupcakes being decorated in full customer view, M Bakery will be much more than just a bakery—it will be an experience,” says Pastry Chef and Partner Candy Lu.

“We’re excited to finally be offering the same wide variety of classic American desserts featured at the brand’s NYC shops. The freshly baked goods you will find at M Bakery will be perfect for your breakfast, for a mid-day snack, and to end your meal,” shared Stewart Ong, Managing Partner of the Phil Jacobe Ventures, Inc., M Bakery Franchise.
