EXCLUSIVE: What You Missed From The LACMA Art+Film Gala -

Once every year, notables from the art, film, fashion, and entertainment industries converge to honor distinct personas that have made an impact in the spheres of art and film; This year’s LACMA Art + Film Gala themed ‘social justice’, aptly shone the spotlight on artist Mark Bradford and award-winning filmmaker George Lucas, whose near and dear industry friends made their presence known during the day’s festivities.

Duly fitting into the social justice equation are Bradford and Lucas; Bradford’s artistic masterpieces center on a vast array of sociopolitical issues and art history, while Lucas is currently in the process of creating the Lucas’ Museum of Narrative Art—a brainchild that is expected to provide a multitude of new jobs and make art accessible to the diverse youth.

The gala—still headed by co-chairs Eva Chow and Leonardo Di Caprio, started with a modest cocktail hour, welcoming guests into a lush garden perfectly curated by artist Robert Irwin. Some of the notable personas in attendance were Kim Kardashian, Brad Pitt, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jane Fonda, Kerry Washington, Jared Leto, Barbra Streisand, Amy Adams, Dakota Johnson, Naomi Campbell, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Charlotte Casiraghi, some clad in the most opulent Gucci pieces—and rightfully so, since the mega fashion house has been an avid supporter of the gala ever since.

Other notable attendees were Alejandro González Iñárritu, Alfonso Cuarón, Guillermo Del Toro and Lee Daniels—authorities in the film industry.

“Here we are at this rarefied gala, we need to keep these things in mind,” quips actress Hari Nef, who stunned in an elaborate red-and-white Gucci number. “We need to honor the work and honor who’s here, and we need to pay attention to the people who are trying to speak truth to power right outside our doors. Art is certainly a vehicle for that.”
