The Statue of Liberty and Uncle Sam mingled with guests at the Rizal Ballroom of the Makati Shangri-La during the 4th of July celebration. United States Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim, though only a few months in the country, has gotten used to requests for a photo and graciously smiled for all the phones and cameras throughout the evening. After the parade of colors, brief remarks and the ceremonial toasts, suited men and women in cocktail dresses queued for the all-American fare of ice cream and hot dogs, nachos, pizzas and buffalo wings. The hotel buffet was just as popular, with several dignified persons going back for several rounds.
