Our 2020 vision just got brighter thanks to the recent news that Oprah Winfrey is “actively thinking” about running for the president of the United States of America. If put into fruition, this gives her the chance of being the most powerful leader of the free world.
What a concept.
As reported by CNN, two of Winfrey’s close friends broke the news to the network last Monday shortly after her phenomenal Golden Globes speech. While Winfrey’s representatives have not confirmed nor denied the news, most are still hanging onto their seats in the hopes of having the hearsay turn into reality.
Let’s take a brief look back at 2016 when Winfrey endorsed Hillary Clinton; Winfrey had passionately shed light on the possibility of having a female president before eventually saying “America, it’s about time that we made that decision.” Has that time finally come for the people of America? This 2020, will America finally be free from the chains of Trump land and see the first black woman president claim her seat in the White House?
While most will most definitely argue Winfrey’s lack of political experience, an excerpt from David Rubenstein’s interview with Winfrey herself can put all that doubt to bed:
David: It’s clear you don’t need government experience to be elected president of the United States.
A subtle attack at Trump, to which Winfrey replied:
Oprah: I thought, ‘Oh gee, I don’t have the experience, I don’t know enough.’ And now I’m thinking, ‘Oh. Oh!’
Now before we all get ahead of ourselves, a friendly reminder that all of these are still speculative in nature. However, it’s not a crime to dream.
