Polo season officially began with the Annual Manila Polo Club President’s Cup at the Enrique Zobel Field where top businessmen, Manila society’s elite and polo aficionados turned up to show their supremacy in a sport dubbed as “the game of kings”.
Manila Polo Club president Isabel Caro Wilson and General Manager August Samala led the opening ceremonies together with representatives from the Cup’s gold sponsors – Jay Ong and Rally Martinez, CEO and Chairman respectively of Porcelanosa Grupo, Joseph Tay and Stephanie Coyiuto-Tay of Casa Bella Home and Living Corp.
In the center of the club’s East Terrace was a classic Victorian Porcelanosa bathtub completely filled with bottles of Codorniu’s ‘Anna’ Blanc de Blancs Brut Cava to make sure that all the guests would have enough bubblies to make the afternoon even more enjoyable along side the Cava, Jamon Serran Reserva from Txantos, which the guests thoroughly enjoyed while watching two matches, first the low goal match that saw the Green Team led by father-son duo Jun and Santi Juban who beat the Violet Team to the gutter, 5-0. And the high goal match that witnessed an exciting win by the Black Team against the White Team, through the fine sportsmanship of Gus Aguirre and Benjamin Urquiza, with a score of 11-9.
